Indian citizens need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) for certain restricted areas, which can be obtained online or at entry points. Foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) obtained through registered tour operators.
The best time to visit Gangtok is from October to December and March to May when the weather is pleasant and mountain views are clear. Avoid monsoon season (June-September) due to heavy rainfall and landslides.
A minimum of 3-4 days is recommended to explore Gangtok city and nearby attractions. For trekking and extensive sightseeing, plan for 6-8 days. If including other Sikkim destinations, allow 10-14 days.
